I don't know how to begin describing how good this movie is.
Fan of Alice in Wonderland? How about the Wizard of Oz? You'll get the same dark humor in a colorful fairytale of an enchanted adventure but in a Japanese manner with less musicals and more breath-taking visual animation.
"The fact that Miyazaki and his team hand-draw the images before they're digitally coloured and animated gives them an artistry that has been woefully lacking from so many recent American features." Empire|Patrick Peters

I give this movie not just stars but the whole universe. Haha!
Set in a small-town life in 18th Century France, lived a boy named Grenouille, an orphan whose sense of smell is extraordinarily acute. So acute that he can smell up to a mile. Ironically, in one point of the film, he finds out that he doen't have a scent of his own. Weird eh?
Then one day, he went to town to run some errands and discovers the thing that will change his life: perfume. A master perfumer Baldini took refuge of him and taught him everything to master the craft.
Grenouille's greatest obsession is to find the perfect perfume. And when he discovers the most intoxicating scent--the natural scent of a beautiful girl--he learns that the only way preserve it requires murder.
And so the story unfolds with a series of gruesome killings. This masterpiece will leave your jaw dropped with either awe or disgust, perhaps even both at once.
You'll be left speechless, just silently mouthing the word 'wow'. If you happen to see this film in the near future or I suggest you do anytime soon, tell me what you think about it. I can't wait to watch this again. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Other |
I've never seen an Asian action film as beautiful as this. I remember watching this movie for the first time in my dad's office when I was 15-ish and didn't know anything about films and didn't pay much attention to cinematography.
But after watching this, I've grown to see and love movies, Asian martial arts films to be specific, in a new perspective.
Another thing about this is its more of a love story; the love triangle between Jin and Leo--two police captains ordered to kill the leader of House of Flying Daggers (a rebel group) and the beautiful Mei, a blind dancer whom they suspect to be the daughter of the old leader.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. As the story progress, true identities are revealed and series of events are yet to be unraveled.
Each scenes will blind you with such rich colors and the movie looks like it came straight out of Chinese paintings.
One word sums it all: BEAUTIFUL! Beautiful scenes, GORGEOUS casts and kick-ass martial arts choreography. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Romance |
Christian, an aspiring writer came to Paris, meets the crazy, dramatic and theatrical cast of the Moulin Rouge and its 'Sparkling Diamond'; a dreamer of becoming a famous actress, Satine.
She has mistaken him for the duke, the man who will make her famous. And while they're at it, they fall in love with each other.
But then the real Duke wants Satine for himself and is insanely jealous.
She is torn between her true love, her dream of becoming a star and dying.
But the show must go on.
It is colorful, wild, the closest thing you can get to an authentic French musical dance entertainment. This movie is timeless. I could watch this 10 years from now and still be like "wow" with the costume, the songs, and everything.
Its a story about desire, betrayal, suspicion, jealousy and anger. But above all things, its a story about love. Love that will live forever.
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is to love, and to be loved in return.
